    Ekalaka Volunteer Fire Department members held the drawing for their annual gun raffle fundraiser on November 25 at Dawg House Pub. Jim Michalski from Minnesota was the lucky grand prize winner this year. He choose the Marlin .44 Magnum Lever Action as his prize. Local Wayne Yost also took home a gun in this year’s raffle, a Remington Model 7 .243 Win. The third place prize, 10x42 Bushnell Trophy Binoculars, was won by Gary Gorder of Baker.   • Drought, lightning lead to several area fires

    Last weekend Alzada Fire Department, Carter County Rural Fire, and Ekalaka Volunteer Fire Department handled three fires in Carter County. Late Monday night and early Tuesday morning a thunderstorm producing a great deal of lightning and little rain started several more fires. The largest of these fires, the Coffee Pot Fire, is estimated to have burned nearly 2,000 acres near the Powder River breaks.     For the second year in a row, Carter County Chamber of Commerce sponsored a Fourth of July Bash on Main Street in Ekalaka. Chamber members encouraged local businesses and residents to set up booths and carnival games for kids and adults alike. Food, drinks, and snow cones were also available for residents who partook in the day's events.     Approximately thirty-five community members attended an informational meeting hosted by Ekalaka Volunteer Fire Department (EVFD) on Monday night. The meeting, held at Carter County Events Center, was about the department's need for a new fire hall.
