  • Hospital options discussed at meetings this week

    Updated Jun 15, 2017

Two public meetings were held this week to discuss the future of the Dahl Memorial Healthcare facility. The June 2 issue of the Eagle showed three different options that Slate Architecture, which has been leading the design team for the project, has presented to the county. The goal of the meetings was to get public input on four options that were presented. None of the options have finalized plans. Instead, the design team and county commissioners will take input from the meetings and use it to decide which of the four...

Its spring time and more of us are outside now then we have been for months. It was a long winter… This beautiful time of year it is more likely for us humans to encounter one of those cute little Disney animals, like raccoons, skunks, foxes and bats. However, those cute little critters could carry a very dangerous virus. RABIES!! Rabies is most often transferred through the saliva of a rabid animal by a bite; whether that’s a human or another animal being bitten. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Pre...

I’ve been watching lots of advertisements for cars. Maybe those are more generously assigned to baseball games that I watch most evenings. Brands start with 2017 models of Toyota, Honda, Kia, Hyundai, Nissan, Volkswagen, Subaru, Audi, Lincoln, Cadillac, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Lexus, Ford, and Chevy. Henry Ford would be astounded at the changes made. Ford and Chevy trucks don’t advertise much in urban areas where professional baseball contests are held. These cars have reduced fuel consumption, but it doesn’t take a lot of fuel t...

Dear Editor, As many have heard, Stompin’ Grounds Coffee House is hosting the Diamonds & Dog Tags Formal Gala on the Saturday prior to Memorial Day. I have rallied my friends and fellow business owners to help with this large undertaking. Veterans and active service members have touched my life in so many ways—they’re my childhood and family friends, teachers, and patients from my days at Dahl Memorial. Of my long list, there are a couple that were very influential in raising my awareness toward what is happening to the m...

I recently attended a continuing education class via tele-medicine on “Three things you can do right now for your own wellness.” The class was great! Usually, continuing education is a bit on the dry side, but this presenter was outstanding. Not only did he have a great personality, but he provided a great message! The three things he listed were basically what everyone else lists for improving health and wellness: manage stress, eat well, and move more! During this continuing education, the presenter gave an example of man...

  • Hair loss

    Lois Lambert|Updated Apr 6, 2017

My father was not bald, although he died at 52, so who knows what his future might have revealed. My step-dad is 87, and while his hair has thinned, he isn’t bald either. My mother was 80 when she died, and though her hair was cut very short and white, her scalp still sprouted thick hair. It was my paternal grandmother, Grandma Huff, who had very thin hair as had her mother, Great Grandma Debo. I seem to have inherited that gene, and my medications could effect that, too. I take lots of medicine, most recently pain m...
