Readers of the Eagle may have recently noticed an ad in the paper seeking local ranchers who are willing to donate beef to Ekalaka Public Schools for the lunch program. On December 20th, the first beef donation was dropped off at the school by Abbey Bruski of Beaver Creek Homegrown. Harlan D. Yates, 93, of Pampa, Texas passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021, in Amarillo. Services were held December 9 at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa with Dr. Roger Hubbard, retired minister, officiating. Burial followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Carter County High School and Ekalaka Elementary music departments will host a Christmas concert on Thursday, December 16th. The concert is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. inside the CCHS gym. A Veterans Day program took place at Carter County High School on November 11. Several local veterans were in attendance. Six were 'adopted' by different Ekalaka Public Schools classes. Carter County High School defeated Broadus by twenty-six points in their final game of the football season on Saturday. The game took place in Broadus and featured the fourth place team from each of the Montana 8-Man Eastern Conference's sub-divisions. On the Bulldogs' first possession, senior quarterback Turner Tooke turned a broken play into a long touchdown run. After that play, the game was never in doubt. Phyllis "Joy" Neumann passed away peacefully October 15, 2021 surrounded by her family. Joy Neumann was the middle child of Glenn and Marjorie Heinan Peabody, born August 26, 1928, in a log house just south of the Ekalaka Hills. Last Wednesday Senator Steve Daines had the chance to talk to juniors and seniors from Carter County High School. Daines met with the students virtually during one of Mr. Miller's social studies classes. Daines and the students spoke about legislation being debated in the U.S. Senate like the Democrats' $3.5 trillion tax and spending bill and the importance of bipartisanship. CCHS defeated Plevna in three straight sets to win their homecoming volleyball match last Saturday in Ekalaka. The Lady Bulldogs won 25-11, 25-14 and 25-12. Carol (Peabody) Spencer is in her first year teaching in her hometown. The 2009 Carter County High School graduate said that her and her husband, Rusty, made the decision to move back to Ekalaka to be closer to her family ranch and because they wanted to be a part of the community. Concrete is being poured this week outside the new connecting wing at Ekalaka Public Schools. The project is now in its final stages. Aside from the exterior concrete, the new building still needs glass for one interior window as well as two exterior doors. Adam Miller spent a few grades during his elementary school years living in a small town of around 100 people, so he's experienced small town living before.
