Ekalaka eighth grader Braxton Bucholz won the 2022 Carter County Spelling Bee last Friday. Bucholz and Alzada School student Tanner Wright battled back and forth for several minutes before a winner was declared. Youth baseball, softball and t-ball sign-ups for Baker programs are currently underway. Programs will be starting soon for this spring season. The Carter County 4-H Shooting Stars hosted their eighth annual invitational shoot on February 4th and 5th at the Fallon County Indoor Shooting Range and Fallon County Exhibit Hall. Anna Jean Holt Nater passed from this life in Hanover, Minnesota January 31, 2022. Anna was born in Broadus, Montana May 23, 1937 to Stephen and Ruby Holt. The ambulance service in Ekalaka has very few EMTs. They range in age from age twenty-four to 70+, and most have other full time jobs. Counting illness and medical leave, there are currently only four people who can take calls. An average month has 1,440 hours which need to be covered by a two-person crew for the ambulance. There are times when there are no names on the call sheet. When this happens any EMT that can respond does - whether it's the middle of the day or night....
