Sagebrush Service Club’s Annual Holiday Bazaar is quickly approaching. The event will take place on Saturday, November 19th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carter County High School gym. This year lunch, pie and coffee will be available. Free babysitting will also be offered throughout the day for preschool age children, and door prizes will be drawn every 30 minutes. Loyd and Phyllis Townsend reached their 74th wedding anniversary on August 30th! They were married in Miles City on August 30th, 1948. Loyd, age 92, was born in Camp Crook, South Dakota and “Phyl,” 91, was born in Ekalaka. Both graduated from Carter COunty High School, Loyd in 1948 and Phyl in 1949. They have two children. On September 2, the Carter County FCCLA Chapter (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) painted blue Bulldog paws that begin on Speelmon Street and end at the school. Fourteen members and one future member were present. After they painted the paws the chapter went back to the school to Mrs. Amy Walker's FCS room where they enjoyed pizza, lemonade and ice cream. Last summer, wildfires burned half of John Bailey's 25,000-acre ranch in Rosebud County. With much of his pasture up in smoke, Bailey had to purchase hay to help feed his cattle. He says he spent about $90,000 on hay this past winter as a result of drought and fires in 2021. He also had to replace fencing and change his herds' grazing patterns to accommodate the burns, an expense of time and money. While Ekalaka resident Sue Schneider was recently out of town visiting grandchildren, she noticed little wooden and metal boxes with books in them on many streets. All, she says, were very creative.
