On December 17, children from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Ekalaka helped deliver over 170 pounds of groceries to the Carter County Food Bank. The goods were donated by members of the church and were dropped off just in time for the holiday season....

Last weekend, Carter County High School basketball teams traveled to Lavina to play in a tournament. In their first game of the tournament—and the season—the Bulldog men took on a more experienced Westby-Grenora team. Although CCHS had six turnovers in the first quarter, compared to only one for the Thunder, they were down only one point at the end of the period. The Carter County High School basketball season has begun. To ensure the safety and enjoyment of spectators attending games at CCHS, Ekalaka Elementary students were recently reminded of appropriate game attendance behavior. Students are expected to be in the gymnasium watching the games. They are not to be playing or running in other parts of the school unsupervised. Throughout the month of November, area EMTs Wayne and Deb Yost taught Carter County High School ninth and tenth graders basic first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). EMTs Jim Pardee and Judy Wright helped the students with the skills test in CPR upon completion of the course. Funeral services for Michael "Mike" Lovec, 68, of Baker were held December 6, 2017 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Ekalaka, MT. V. E. Figg and crew built our present house at its location of 521 North Central Ave in the summer of 1956. We added an addition in 1984-85. The agreement was that Phyl., and I would finish all the sheet rock and paint the house inside and stain the siding outside. The house was small but had several small rooms which made for lots of per-fa-taping and “mud” work. The Carter County FFA Chapter will be holding their annual Indian Taco Feed on Thursday, November 30th, 2017 in the CCHS Tuggle Room. Dinner will start at 6:00 p.m., and the alumni pie auction will begin at 7:30. This year, the chapter has decided to put on a community dance, which will start shortly after the pie auction ends. Droves of people in the holiday spirit turned out for Saturday's activities in Ekalaka. Shoppers frequented Sagebrush Service Club's annual Holiday Bazaar at Carter County High School gymnasium, and Summit National Bank's appreciation day drew around 275 visitors. Other local area businesses also took part in the festivities, giving away door prizes as well as proving to customers that there are great gifts which can be purchased locally for the holidays....
The 2018 Chamber Calendar, “Over the Moon in Carter County,” will be available at the Saturday, November 18, Holiday Bazaar in the CCHS gym. Carter County Senior Citizens Club was recently awarded a $200 mini-grant from The Governor's Advisory Council on Aging. This grant was presented to Karen Carroll, Carter County Senior Citizens Coordinator, at the Governor's Conference on Aging in Glendive on September 13. With this grant money, a new 1100-watt microwave and a new telephone was purchased for the senior center. Attendance numbers have been dropping at Carter County Chamber of Commerce meetings for several months. Board members have struggled to accomplish goals that were set at the beginning of the year. Currently, there are around sixty-five chamber members. This list includes several businesses throughout the county, as well as area ranchers and individuals. On September 26th, the local FFA chapter attended Fall Districts in Forsyth, Montana. Five members attended: Kyleigh Bonsell, Heather & Hannah LaBree, Jaelee Strangford, and Jasmine Erickson. Former Ekalaka Town Clerk/Treasurer Lisa Jourdan recently received a phone call from ONEOK, a pipeline company which has lines in Carter County. During the call, she learned that the company will be fulfilling her submitted grant request for a new pool by providing $10,000 upfront which will be presented to the town shortly. On Tuesday, Scott Shupe of Farmington, Kentucky was at Carter County High School for around forty minutes delivering excitement, entertainment, and education for local students.
