    While the general rifle season is now closed, traditional muzzleloader enthusiasts will have a season of their own starting Saturday, December 11. Gov. Greg Gianforte signed House Bill 242 into law this year, establishing a nine-day muzzleloader heritage hunting season. The season begins on December 11 and runs through December 19.     The CCHS Bulldog varsity boys' basketball team kicked off their season last weekend, falling to non-conference opponents Bridger and Broadview-Lavina. The Dogs had a rough second half against Bridger on Friday, getting outscored 40-14. Four Scouts finished the game in double figures. Eighth grader Chace Loehding had a team-high 12 points for the Bulldogs. Loehding hit four three-pointers, three of them in the fourth quarter.     After a few JV games last week, Bulldog basketball teams officially kicked off their 2021-22 seasons over the weekend. The girls varsity team went 2-0 in Broadview, defeating two non-conference opponents, Bridger and Broadview-Lavina. On Friday against Broadview, the girls got off to a slow start offensively, but held the Bridger Lady Scouts to only two points.     The poem I want to share this week was written by Chuck Rein, who ranches with his wife Pam on one of the most beautiful outfits on the planet in the shadow of the Crazy Mountains west of Melville, Montana.     Elden “Swede” Strand, was born on March 8, 1929 and raised in Ekalaka, Montana. He was the son of Olaf and Mabel (Billingsley) Strand. Swede was a life-long resident of eastern Montana. Swede is survived by his sons Jim, Mike (grandson Chris), and Don Strand, and their families. Swede passed away peacefully on December 12, 2021 at the Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City, MT due to complications from an infection at the age of 92.
