  • Father-daughter dance will become annual event

    Around forty local fathers and daughters attended a daddy-daughter dance last Saturday at Carter County Events Center. The dance was put on by the Puptown Pioneers Homemaker Club, a volunteer organization that works to improve the quality of life for families and communities through leadership development, volunteer service and education.     On Monday, Heather VanGelder from ONEOK presented an $80,000 check to Dahl Memorial Healthcare Association. The funds from the grant will be used to purchase twenty-five new Stryker hospital beds for the new facility that is currently under construction.     Dahl Memorial Clinic and Carter County Public Health will be co-hosting a flu vaccine clinic on Tuesday, December 17 at Carter County High School.     A truck carrying forty-two thousand pounds of beer was on its way to Sidney when it wrecked just a few miles north of Ekalaka last Thursday. Plains Towing and Recovery out of Belle Fourche was on scene with a semi, skid-steer, two wreckers, a flatbed trailer and a recovery trailer to cleanup the wreckage.     Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) officials have identified two additional cases of illness related to the national outbreak of e-cigarette use, or vaping. Montana now has five identified cases, including one death.     The Affordable Care Act is still in place and open enrollment is almost over for Montanans who need to enroll, re-enroll or switch health insurance plans through the Health Insurance Marketplace. Four weeks into open enrollment, there has been a 29% decrease in sign-ups in Montana when compared to 18,428 the same time period only two years ago.
