It's fall and hunting season is upon us. Soon the mornings will be crisp and cold and the leaves will be turning. Under the Big Sky, this is the season many of us spend the whole year looking forward to. In the following forecasts, FWP outlines what hunters can expect for deer, elk and pronghorn seasons around the state. We also have a fairly in-depth upland game bird forecast. Along with this great information, we have some tips on being safe in bear country and the...
Tim Sheehy former Navy SEAL and Republican candidate for U.S. Senate It’s clear that Jon Tester is a desperate man doing desperate things, including spreading outright lies, fearmongering, and misleading Montanans—particularly on health care. Here’s the hard truth: our health care system is broken. On Jon Tester’s watch, costs are going up, and access is going down. Because of Obamacare, Montanans face higher premiums year after year. We’ve lost access to doctors and health care plans we were told we could keep. More gove...
As health care providers, hospital leaders, nurses, and support staff who serve or have served rural Montana communities, we condemn the recent television ads and full-page advertisements by Jon Tester's campaign and the absolute lies being told to our fellow neighbors. The ads, some of which use the names and photos of local hospitals, falsely accuse Tim Sheehy of threatening rural hospitals, misleading the patients we serve. Some of us have gotten to know Tim through his and his wife’s philanthropy supporting Montana h...
Recently, our community may have seen an advertisement mentioning Dahl Memorial as being at risk of closure due to proposed healthcare policy changes. This ad has understandably raised concerns, and I want to provide some clarity about our current situation and our commitment to serving Ekalaka and the surrounding areas. Our Focus: Quality Care, Not Politics Dahl Memorial operates independently of any political campaigns. The recent ads are third-party political messages funded by Montanans for Tester, and they were not...
September has been a whirlwind of activity at Ekalaka Public Schools. We've had an incredible start, filled with community spirit and exciting events. It might just be you humming ...."Do you remember, that night in September." One of our highlights was the overwhelming community response to the Remington Fire fundraiser. Together with Plentywood School District, we raised a remarkable $10,000 for those affected. Special Bulldog Nation shoutout to -T7 Cattle, Jitt Schnieder,...
Owning a ranch and a restaurant does not leave much time for family vacations. Our oldest grandson will graduate from high school this spring, and we are realizing that we have not taken him very many places. In fact, the last place we took him was to Disney World in November of 2019, and the most memorable thing about the trip was that we came home with Coronavirus before it was even fashionable in the United Sates. It had been rumored in Wuhan, China, but it sure traveled...
September 9, 2024 It was another hot, dry week at Capitol and on Tie Creek. Early mornings were pleasant and beautiful, but afternoons got hot. The sunflowers are a beautiful addition to the landscape, and they have bloomed in profusion since our last rain. The Black Hills have gotten lots of rain, but the clouds seem to pass us by to both north and south. Dick and Erma Albert made a shopping trip to the Hills, on Thursday. On Friday, they joined the senior citizens for a spaghetti dinner. They went to the Catholic Church ser...
Hello God, it's me, Mara: You know, Lord, sometimes it's pleasing to read HOW some folks got together and did things together, some years BACK. No author was given but the writer mentioned how their family loved going to grandparents' house as grandma's favorite words were: "Take it easy!" Twins were mentioned – no age given, but they told grandma that they were going to learn how to swim: 'It's going to happen Friday!' Well, grandma touched her heart, took a deep breath and s...
OTTER - Jim Gilliland sat at the kitchen table in his ranch house, sorting through the mess of papers strewn about before him. Promotional leaflets advertised soil rejuvenation services. Glossy flyers touted potential government assistance for fence reconstruction projects. Informational brochures offered access to livestock feed at reduced cost. Outside Gilliland's window, just 200 yards from his house, blackened ground marked the Remington Fire's farthest advance. The...
It's been an improved defense that has made the difference so far this season for the CCHS Bulldog football team. The boys started their season at home on August 31st with a late afternoon game against the Plentywood Wildcats. Blue rolled to a 24-0 victory, the first shutout the team has pitched in recent memory. Sophomore back Roger Beach scored the first touchdown of the season on a 55-yard run. Quarterback Chace Loehding ran in the other two Bulldog touchdowns, both of...
The CCHS varsity volleyball squad opened their season by winning a tournament in Sidney on August 31st. The team only lost one set throughout the entire day. The girls defeated Froid/Medicine Lake, Sidney JV, Wibaux, Plevna, and Richey/Lambert - all in two sets - on their way to the championship match. In that contest, they had a rematch with Froid/Medicine Lake and dropped the first set, 16-25, before rallying to win the next two for the championship, 25-22 and 15-12. In...
Sarina Dawn "Green" Venable of Miles City, Montana, being 48 years of age, took her final earthly breath in Billings, Montana on September 1, 2024. Sarina's caretaker spirit, still intact, had her wondering if everyone else was okay right down to her final chest rise. Her heart kept steady beats through two bouts of cancer from the age of 20 with thyroid cancer and most recently with an aggressive leiomyosarcoma cancer. Sarina was born August 4th, 1976, to Jean and Jeanie...
