Over my years of writing this column, many people have told me that they have learned about ranching through reading my column. I laugh and explain that would likely be the equivalent of feeling that one could break a colt because he/she has watched RFDTV horse training shows. Although shows like "Yellowstone" glamorize ranching, there are a lot of ranching tasks that are not very glamorous. This column should effectively debunk the romantic portrayal of cattle ranching.. Megan Cremer, who is the sweetest cutest territory...

You know, Lord, years ago, Selma Robinson wrote a poem named “Summer Shower,” beginning it by saying that a poem used words like colors from a paintbox. Ahead of the poem she wrote: “Your eyes see color, and your ears hear music.” Then she wrote the poem: “Thundering, shimmering, silver gray, it’s raining today. Shining and slanting, spears, such a shower as we’ve been wanting. Freesia and fuchsia and mignonette and Violet and golden glow, And blue delphinium, row on row. And morning glory and hollyhock, and four-o’clock...
Dear Eric, I have not been writing for a long time but with new revelations that are very disturbing I couldn’t help myself, so here goes. The recent revelations of the land purchases by the Chinese are very alarming. And next to missile sites, it seems some one is very asleep at the wheel not to have some regulations about these things. While our Powers that be are so busy thinking about Global Warming, maybe their focus should be on more urgent needs. Many of our familys’ were immigrants from foreign lands, coming and fol...
To the citizens of Carter County, First, let me start by saying THANK YOU to all of you in this fantastic community! Your support of my small business means the world to me. Many have reached out to me wondering why I did not enter the race for County Attorney this election cycle. I’m here to apologize for disappointing many, but there is a good reason. As some of you know, I have some private family matters t...

While Ekalaka resident Sue Schneider was recently out of town visiting grandchildren, she noticed little wooden and metal boxes with books in them on many streets. All, she says, were very creative. Some looked like bird houses, others like doll houses. Inside were books that had been lovingly read and were now being made available to anyone; books for children, adolescents and adults. Schneider's grandchildren enjoyed picking out a book at home that they had read and taking...
Following the recent resignation of former Superintendent Stephen Ely, the Ekalaka Elementary #15 and Carter County High School Unified Board of Trustees interviewed three individuals for administrative positions on July 11. At the board's regular meeting the following day, a split vote with one trustee abstaining as she was not present during the interviews left the matter of hiring a school administrator unresolved. The board decided to then conduct second interviews with...
