Things are sort of quiet around Capitol and Tie Creek this week. The weather has been very hot. Alvin Cordell saw a temperature of 104 degrees on Monday, and 101, again on Tuesday. The hay fields are mostly full of grasshoppers, but some to the south haven’t had the influx of hoppers like those up on Tie Creek. The first of two anticipated trials in the homicide investigation of Fallon resident Isaac Carrier is set to begin in August and has been moved to Dawson County, and those called for jury duty will need to plan on commuting. The area is farming country and Irving wanted to do ranching. At that time there were ranches available in the Ekalaka area so they moved to the area in 1949 and purchased the Pruess ranch 10 miles north of Ekalaka.
