On July 20, Ekalaka Track and Arena held their annual youth rodeo and ranch rodeo. In addition to the event winners in the youth rodeo, all-around winners for each age group received buckles. A memorial service to commemorate Judy Farwell's life was held July 31 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Ekalaka. Hannah and Heather LaBree were recently named 2019 SaWUSA (Student Athlete World USA) co-Student-Athletes of the Year. Hannah and Heather are rising seniors at CCHS. They competed on SaWUSA's Under 19 Women's Basketball team that took home the silver medal at the United World Games in Austria earlier this summer. Carter County Museum's Annual Dino Shindig was again a Argentinosaurus-sized success this year. In its seventh year, the event has become one of the more anticipated summer events in Ekalaka, and each year, an expanded slate of activities has helped it to grow. Weather cooperated during the inaugural Beaver Creek Rendezvous Charity Shoot on July 20. Shooters competed in a standing 100 yard scoped target shoot and a standing silhouette target shoot with a scoped .22 rim-fire rifle. Fulton and Betty Jo Castleberry both grew up in Carter County and graduated from Carter County High School.
