The 7th Annual Dino Shindig is set to take place this weekend in Ekalaka. Visitors will be in town from all over the world to hear lectures from leading paleontologists, partake in kids activities, and dance the night away. Just before 1 a.m. last Friday, a tornado touched down at the Higgins Ranch a few miles northeast of Ridgeway. According to a report from the National Weather Service, the tornado was classified as an EF-1 with winds between 86 and 110 miles per hour. Helena, Mont. – The Montana Department of Agriculture has updated its noxious weed list to include ventenata (Ventenata dubia). The Noxious Weed Listing Workgroup recommended adding ventenata to the Priority 2A list at its meeting on March 21, 2019. The amendment was adopted on June 21st, 2019. Priority 2A weeds are common in isolated areas in the State and require eradication or containment where less abundant. Management can be prioritized by the local weed districts. "...

Last Friday, a bus loaded with David and Ijkalaka Russell descendants traveled from Belle Fourche, South Dakota to Ekalaka. The trip was part of the Christenot family reunion. The Christenots are kin to Kate Russell, one of David and Ijkalaka's children. The 25th Annual Carter County Fair Pet Parade is scheduled for Friday, August 9. The event begins at noon at the bleacher area of Carter County Fairgrounds. It’s been a busy summer on the front to combat aquatic invasive species. So far, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and its partner agencies have conducted more than 52,000 watercraft inspections – with more than 7,000 of those happening over the Fourth of July weekend. To date, 13 vessels with zebra or quagga mussels have been intercepted. Nineteen people donated blood at last week’s community blood drive held at Carter County Events Center. Of those, seven had appointments and four were new donors.
