  • Yellow tag paddlefish season ends short of harvest target

    Updated Jul 11, 2024

The 2024 paddlefish season for the yellow tag area of the Yellowstone and lower Missouri rivers ended June 30, short of the harvest cap of 1,000 fish. The overall harvest estimate was 782 paddlefish, and female paddlefish represented 43 percent of the total harvest. Harvest estimates for the past two seasons were 776 in 2023 and 769 fish in 2022, continuing the trend toward a more dispersed fishery since open river passage began with the new Intake Bypass Channel near Glendive. • Letter to the editor

    Updated Jul 11, 2024

I almost killed someone this morning. How's that for an opener? Terrifying, but true. I was driving back to town from the dump, almost to the four-way stop by the school when a woman and young girl on bicycles came around the corner (from the direction of the fairgrounds), and turned onto the dump road, riding past me without stopping at the stop sign. I was starting my right turn to head down to Main Street, when two young boys on bicycles shot through the same intersection (also from the direction of the fairgrounds) in...

    Karen Odell|Updated Jul 11, 2024

July 8, 2024 Last week, Karen Odell got word that a storm might be on the way with large hail. Then, when she heard a roar of wind, she looked out to see huge tree limbs circling high in the air, but before she and Hywel got through the kitchen, the roar stopped. When she looked out north again, a pile of limbs had landed, and the power line to the well house was under all those limbs. She finally...

  • Letter to the editor

    Updated Jul 11, 2024

Dear Editor – I have been reluctant to write a letter to the editor, as I know I don’t know all the facts or happenings at Dahl Memorial Hospital. I was very thankful that Dr. Grace Blair wrote a letter. With her knowledge of the medical field, I felt she was able to voice a professional opinion about the situation. Some of what she wrote were things I was concerned about and probably other have the same concerns. The DMH Board of Directors has a thankless task of watching over DMH. Its members have stepped up to vol...

  • Conversations with God

    Updated Jul 11, 2024

Hello God, it's me, Mara: You know, Lord, fun things sometimes happen, if we notice. We were to meet Lilly at her favorite café in her town. We found the café, a parking spot, then went in, found her, with her back to us but we spotted her red-hair and giggled. Since it was noonish – the café was nearly full. Six folks sat four tables to our right. There was chatter all over, then we noticed a waitress bringing them their salads. The 'grandpa' spoke, "Bow your heads, we need...
