The 7th Annual Summit Basketball Camp, named after legendary women's college basketball coach Pat Summit, was held June 21-23 in Ekalaka. The camp is put on each year by Kayla Olsen with the assistance of a large number of volunteers who help coach and organize it. Organizers are thankful for the ongoing support of the camp, especially for the many sponsors that made it possible, and are looking forward to next year....
Piggy-backing off of Summit Basketball Camp, the inaugural Summit Volleyball Camp was held on the same week of June in Ekalaka. The camp was organized by 2017 CCHS graduate Glen Frye, who received assistance from many of the same people that helped put on the basketball camp. As I sit here, memories come to mind. As a child, I have come to Ekalaka to visit many times. Each visit builds on a journey of the past to the present, for which I am grateful to know my father's path. Montana Shakespeare in the Parks' performance of "Cymbeline" was well attended by members of the community on Tuesday evening in Ekalaka. Though there have been no confirmed sightings in Montana, populations are spreading and the risk of introduction to Montana is high. Feral swine are an invasive species that damage crops, pastures, and waterways, and these animals can carry diseases that spread to livestock, people, and wildlife. The Town of Ekalaka plans to use over $1.6 million in combined funding to replace nearly one mile of aging water lines. Construction is scheduled to take place in the summer of 2022, according to a preliminary engineering report completed by Great West Engineering of Billings.
