Votes were tallied Tuesday night for the recent school election. Unofficial results show that Lynn Williams and Tye B. Williams have been elected to fill three-year terms as trustees for Ekalaka Elementary District #15 and High School District #3. Lynn Williams received 266 votes and Tye B. Memorial Day services will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 31, at Beaver Lodge Cemetery. Veterans performing the services should arrive at 10:30 a.m. During the service, members of VFW Auxiliary will honor fallen soldiers by placing a white cross and a red, poppy covered wreath in the center of the cemetery. There will be a picnic and social at the Events Center following the cemetery services. On April 29th, Ekalaka Elementary students celebrated Arbor Day with an afternoon full of presentations and programs. The day's events were put together by fourth grade teacher Johanna Tooke. Students spent time at seven different stations celebrating the holiday, and many of those stations were headed by local volunteers. Those of us who have lost our mothers realize how time spent with our mothers is more valuable than any other gift we could give or be given. Migration of young adults out of rural communities for college or jobs in larger communities is shown in the U.S. Census data. In contrast, the Census also reflects a trend of in-migration of people aged 30-49 to rural counties. Votes for the Alzada School District 56 trustee mail ballot election were counted on Tuesday evening at Carter County Courthouse. Unofficial results show that Miranda Hendrickson has been elected to fill a three-year term as trustee, defeating Ashlee Thomas and Lane R. Pilster. Hendrickson received 33 votes while Thomas had 23 and Pilster had 15. In total, 74 ballots were returned by active voters in the district. Three of those ballots were returned as undeliverable....
