January 26, 2025 A little snow fell nearly every day, this week at Capitol and on Tie Creek, but it was only about an inch each day. The wind built up the snow, and drifts are building. Ronda Cordell hasn't been on the road much, because of the winter weather we have been having. She canceled twice on taking Cuddly to the Belle Vet Clinic for spaying. Now it has been moved back to February, so the week may be nice, but it may turn bad that day. On Monday, it was twenty degrees and felt good to sit close to the heater, and...
Dear servant of the people of Montana, Please vote NO on HJ5 calling for a Convention of States. Those who call for such a convention have no power to limit the Convention to one or two amendments. An Article 5 call for convention is just that. The agenda is wide open. There are too many eager to end our form of government. We cannot risk it. Please Vote NO when and if it makes it out of committee. I am a Republican, and a true conservative one at that. Stephen (Steve) DeFord Ekalaka...
Hello God, it's me, Mara: You know, Lord, a friend shared about seeing goodness of folks while out shopping. If we're paying attention, we might also see a 'helping hand'. Last week, a short elderly lady, tried to reach a box of pasta off the top shelf in the grocery store; no way could she reach it. A lad near her, turned, asked if she needed help. She smiled, pointed to a certain 'box' – he grabbed it, handed it to her; she thanked him. He actually looked a bit surprised t...
For all but 8 years of my life, I have lived on the east slopes of the Rocky Mountain front range out of Augusta, Montana and Big Timber, Montana. For the 31 years (give or take in case you are doing the math, and you are really bad at math) that I have lived in the wind, I have tried to get used to it, but I don't think one can get used to wind. This past month has been brutally windy here in Big Timber, Montana. Because it is futile to fight the wind, I have decided to try...

There is an empty space in Diana Burd's life where her son used to be. She sees him in the plants he gave her, the movies they watched, the trips they had yet to take. She couldn't understand how he was feeling until he was gone. Looking back, Burd said the signs were there. Her son told his brother to leave his stuff alone. But, he also told his brother that when he was gone, everything he owned would be his. "I remember, I was like, 'Oh, Wyatt,'" Diana said. "And he said,...
